Who it's for
A fully licensed LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LCDC or psychologist opening a practice of one, who wants to take insurance broadly from the start and would rather not learn clearinghouses, remittances and directory listings the hard way.
- Over 65 clients, or a Medicare-heavy area? Complete includes Medicare enrollment for the licenses Medicare pays.
- Starting lean? Essentials covers three plans and the must-haves; add billing or a website later.
- Prescribing? See the Prescriber Practice Launch, which adds DEA, the prescription monitoring program and e-prescribing.
Everything included
- Everything in Solo Practice Launch: Essentials
- Credentialing with 6 insurance plans (Medicare too, for LPCs, LMFTs, LCSWs and psychologists)
- Fee schedule and billing set-up: clearinghouse, ERA and EFT, eligibility checks
- Website page, Psychology Today and Google Business Profile set up
- Startup budget and first-year projection
- 90 days of support after opening
Billing set-up means your fee schedule, enrollment with a clearinghouse, electronic remittance (ERA) and direct deposit (EFT) with each plan, and an eligibility check before every first visit. Your listings use the same name, address and phone everywhere, because plans and directories compare them.
Medicare and Texas Medicaid
- Medicare has paid licensed marriage and family therapists and mental health counselors (in Texas, LMFTs and LPCs) since January 1, 2024, alongside LCSWs and psychologists (CMS). We enroll you and your practice in PECOS and reassign your billing to the practice. There's no Medicare application fee for individual clinicians.
- Addiction counselors such as LCDCs generally can't bill Medicare on their own, so for an LCDC the six plans are commercial and other plans.
- Texas Medicaid isn't in this package; it's $350 per clinician for TMHP enrollment and the first managed care plan. If you're an LPC or LMFT, Texas Medicaid has required Medicare enrollment first since March 2024, unless you qualify for the pediatric exemption (BCBSTX Medicaid notice).

If you need more
- More insurance plans: 6 plans are included; each extra plan is $175.
- Keeping credentials current after opening: $49 per clinician a month (CAQH re-attestation, renewals, recredentialing and revalidation).
- Started with a launch roadmap session? Its $395 is credited in full toward this package if you sign within 30 days.
Typical timeline
You can open to self-pay clients in about 11 weeks on our Texas roadmap. Each insurance plan starts on its own effective date; most take 60 to 120 days from a complete application, and we follow up every two weeks until each one is decided.
| Step | Typical timing |
|---|---|
| Kickoff and your dated roadmap | Week 1 |
| Individual NPI for each clinician | Weeks 1–2 |
| Business formed with the Texas Secretary of State (you or your attorney file) | Week 4 |
| HIPAA policies and client forms adopted | Weeks 4–6 |
| CAQH profile built and attested | Weeks 6–7 |
| Cima EHR set up with your forms and fees | Weeks 7–8 |
| Insurance applications filed, then followed up every 2 weeks | Months 2–5 |
| You open: self-pay clients can start | Week 11 |
| Each plan's effective date confirmed | Month 6 |
| Billing each plan from its effective date | Month 6 |
From the kickoff, on the earliest path through our 62-step Texas roadmap. Agencies and insurance plans set their own pace, so treat these as typical, not promised.

What you pay separately
| Step | Fee and who charges it |
|---|---|
| File the certificate of formation with the Texas Secretary of State | $300 filing fee (Texas Secretary of State) |
| File an assumed name certificate if you'll use another name | $25 filing fee (Texas Secretary of State) (changes; we check the current fee) |
| Get an EIN from the IRS | Free |
| Enroll in Medicare (PECOS) | No application fee for individual clinicians or clinician groups |
- Free: your NPIs, your CAQH profile, and Medicare enrollment for individual clinicians.
- Insurance you buy: malpractice (many plans ask for $1 million per claim and $3 million a year), general liability and cyber.
- Your attorney and CPA for the entity, lease and taxes; your clearinghouse's own fees, if it charges any; rent and phone.
What's not included
- Filing your entity. You or your attorney file with the Texas Secretary of State; we give you the checklist.
- Doing your billing after the set-up. You send claims from the EHR, or hire a biller. If a biller would take a percentage of collections, have your attorney look at the arrangement first.
- Texas Medicaid ($350 per clinician) and plans beyond six ($175 per plan).
- Legal or tax advice, and any guarantee that a plan accepts you or pays a given rate.
Questions
Why do most solo clinicians pick Complete?
Because the slow, fiddly parts of opening are billing set-up and getting found, and both are in it. Bought on their own, billing set-up is $1,500 and the website and listings are $950.
Is Medicare included?
Yes, for LPCs, LMFTs, LCSWs and psychologists: Medicare enrollment in PECOS is part of Complete's credentialing. We pick the commercial plans with you from the ones open to new providers in your area.
When can I bill insurance?
From each plan's effective date, which we confirm in writing and load into your EHR. Claims for a plan's members before that date usually deny.
What does the startup budget cover?
Every opening cost (fees, insurance, rent, furniture, software, pay before opening), the monthly cost to run, and when insurance money is likely to arrive, so you know how many self-pay clients carry you until it does.
Do you take a percentage of my revenue?
No. One flat fee, written in the proposal, paid half at signing and half when your insurance applications are submitted.
